Can Dream
INT.
MODEST MIDWEST AMERICAN HOME, LIVING ROOM
A five
year old boy comes running through the living room screaming, his 3 year old
sister following behind doing the same, pulling a toy dog that makes a
squeaking sound. Mark is lying on the
couch with a beer in one hand, the remote in the other.
Mark
Will
you kids please go be loud somewhere
else?
I’m trying to watch the game!
The kids
continue running around and yelling, Beth enters from the kitchen drying her
hands on a towel.
Beth
Don’t
yell at them they’re just kids!
Mark
Whining
But
I’m trying to watch the game!
Beth
God,
you big baby I’ll have them
go
play in the basement.
Beth
leaves the room with the kids, enter Katie and her friend Matt.
Katie
Hey
what’s up?
Mark
Just
watching the game.
Your
sister is downstairs with the kids.
Katie
Oh,
ok I’m gonna go say hi to her.
This
is my friend Matt by the way.
Matt is
well dressed but covered with tattoos and looks like he’s spent a few too many
nights out drinking with the boys.
Matt
How’s
it goin’?
Mark
Grab
a beer and a piece of couch
Katie
exits, Matt grabs a beer and sits on the other side of the sectional
couch. He opens the beer and chugs, then
lets out a huge burp.
Mark
Nice
one!
Matt
I
guess. I had way better ones last night.
Mark
Why?
What were you drinking last night?
Matt
What
wasn’t I drinking?
Mark
Man,
I remember doing that kind of
stuff
all the time back in the day.
Don’t
have kids man.
Matt
Ha
ha! None that I know of at least.
Katie
re-enters the room with Beth.
Katie
Alright
dude, you ready to go?
Matt
Sure
Mark
Awe
man so soon? We should hang out sometime
Matt
Right
on
Katie and
Matt exit, Beth sits on the couch by Mark.
Beth
Why
on earth would you want to hang out with that guy?
You
would end up in jail.
Mark
I
like him. He reminds me of how
I
would be if I wasn’t married.
Beth
rolls her eyes and walks back into the kitchen, Mark chugs the rest of his
beer, spilling most of it and coughing.

“I like him, he reminds me of what I could’ve been if I
never got married.” – said by my brother-in-law to my sister about one of my
friends.
“That f****** b**** I don’t want anything to do with her
crazy ass!” – said by my friend Maxwell about a girl he was seeing when asked
why he wasn’t seeing her anymore.
“I just want you to know that Max is a liar, I never loved
him and I never stalked his a**.”- said by the girl Maxwell was seeing to me as
a text at 2:15 in the morning.
“I made an appointment for Thursday to get the rest of my
hair shaved off because I’m sick of it falling out.” – said by my mom to me
(she has cancer for the second time, so she’s knows it will fall out anyway).
“Sis just peed all over the bathroom floor while she was on
the toilet! Don’t ask me how that happened!”- said by me about my 3 year old
niece when my sister asked how the kids where doing while I was babysitting.

This is Ryan Panos. He is a local musician that plays at bars in LaPorte and the surrounding area. His dream is to play music for a living. I think it would be interesting to do a documentary about his struggle to fulfill his dream and the challenges of juggling family, job, and his music.
This is Thaddeus Cutler. He is an artist and gallery owner. He is an IUSB alumni. He has lead an interesting life; from attending art school in New York City to owning an art gallery in a very uncultured town. This documentary would be an overview of his life, his successes, and his struggles.
This is Theo Kilgore. He works with the mentally challenged to pay the bills, but he would really like to make movies. His current side job is making rap videos. He doesn't like rap music and he doesn't make much money, but he loves being able to use his creative voice. This documentary would be a behind the scenes of making an underground rap video (the creative process, creative disagreements, and creative ways to film with no budget).

This idea is a fictional, linear, narrative about a post apocalyptic world. The atmosphere is so rancid that people have to be completely covered to go outside. The only populations left are in cities that have left over bomb shelters from the 1950s. People live in these shelters and have interconnecting tunnels under the cities. They do occasionally have to venture outside though, and it is very dangerous for them to do so. This would be the story of a woman that found a baby and is trying to find it's parents. It would show all the things she would have to do to keep the baby safe.

This idea came to me because of another movie, The Wizard of Oz, which has had a lot of re-interpretations and takes. This idea is instead of showing Dorothy's adventures in Oz, showing someone from Oz getting sent to Kansas where Dorothy is from. It would have to be a character that would stand out in Kansas, like the witch or the scarecrow. This would be a fictional, linear, narrative.

It seems like some people can't do anything with out putting it on social media. I went with that concept with a twist for this linear, narrative, fiction. The idea is this: What if you literally couldn't do anything with out it showing up on a social media feed? Would it change the way you live your life? I think it would be an interesting concept to explore. It would follow three people, a good/moral person, a bad person, and a person that leads a fairly normal life but tries to change what he does to make himself look better in other people's eyes.

visual media idea day 3 of 6
This idea is a linear, fictional, narrative that takes place in what I like to call the future past. The future past the idea of what the future would be like in the 1950s. This means, cities built in the skies, flying cars, automatic everything all that great stuff that never came to be. My idea that I have so far is that people are just hanging out in the future past- doing normal things, when some evil villain unleashes his army of giant robots to take over the world. The people have to band together and fight back using laser guns, and some hero figures out something brilliant and saves the day. It would be very campy and cheesy. The type of movie that is bad on purpose.

Visual media idea-day 2 of 6
When I was younger, I had a reoccurring dream that involved a creepy basement door. This is the inspiration for idea #2. It would be an experimental non-linear narrative. The location would be a scarey looking basement. I would want it to look dark and grainy, perhaps sepia or black and white. It would start with just a shot of the basement, completely dark or dimly lit with a doorway in the background. The door would be closed and lit in some way so it looks far away but that's the only thing you can see. The composition of the film would be very circular, showing different parts of the basement, even different doorways. Then a little kid dressed in white would show up out of no where, but you would only see the back of her. The camera would follow her from place to place that it already showed. She would intermittently disappear and then reappear off to the side but just a quick glimpse. It would end with the door from the first scene closing.

Day 1 of 6-visual media ideas
My first idea is to have a somewhat pre-scripted reality show, but it would really be a mix of a talk/advice show mixed with a reality show. I think of Drunk History without the re-enactments. My idea came to me because I was at my friend Nikki’s house the other night and one of our mutual friends was asking us for advice (of the sexual nature). We may have had some drinks…. ok we were somewhat intoxicated, and Nikki started giving advice. Her advice involved a lot of hand movements and sound effects, this may not sound funny, but Nikki is tall and skinny and somewhat spastic when she’s drunk (think of Elaine from Seinfeld dancing). So my idea is for real, normal people to ask a drunk Nikki advice to their relationship problems and for her to give her crazy advice. I highly doubt she would actually agree to do this so some sort of secret camera may have to be in place. The setting would be someplace she would feel comfortable, like her back yard or living room. It would have a casual feel, much like Drunk History. It would blur the lines between narrative and non-narrative, and it would mainly be linear, non-fiction.
